I’m studying business and we are taught to leverage on other people’s skill.History degree may not offer the technical knowledge that most manufacturing companies require but other industries require people with skills they got from a history degree. Eg: History major can go into journalism, department of stats, certain political positions, jobs requiring humanity or past research, etc. Different jobs require different skills depending on promote forces

@Kemiztri Every degree is a real degree, but it depends on the individual’s ability to provide service to the public around them. A person with a history degree could work with archeological works or work with a museum. But it has no place in a industrial setting. Even engineering can be useless if the time and place is not right.

@Kemiztri exactly. what you study is also vital. you don’t need a degree for some other fields. yeah, for something like landscaping you need talent, not a degree.
@misscamara12 honestly i really do landscaping and hardscaping… i started when i was 14 years ancient… i never went to college; but i cultured on my own and i know i have two trucks… its very hard to start your own business.. from what i notice alot of ppl are choosing the incorrect degrees?? filming?? come on now; marketing?? business??? only fields that are in plea is in hard sciences like chemistry or mechanic engineering, medicine.. these are “real degrees” not history

Well, I reckon it also depends on what you study. The student featured studied film. I mean seriously? Not everyone can become Steven Spielberg. You don’t want an empty degree, but study careers like certain engineering occupations that are useful.

So after college, you have a debt equivalent to a home mortgage, but without the house. Young people should seriously start getting educated in viable trades – any skill that is in plea in a severely downsized economy that, IMO, will NOT recover. In other words, who would you miss the most? Your local politician or your local garbageman, auto mechanic, plumber, dentist or doctor? THINK of services that will ALWAYS be in plea and essential for the continuation of LIFE itself.
